本片讲述了民国年间，观山一族传人封四九的探险故事。故事由为祸一方的郑大帅而起，贪财的他入墓地而死，却引出了一个充满诡计与江湖恩怨的阴谋。观山太保传人封四九为了筹措军饷，应郑大帅嫡子郑东西请求，出山取回郑大帅遗体。 郑东西为求稳妥，又命其妹郑小兰找到了与封四九祖上观山太保有仇的，发丘中郎一族后代陈青山一同参与，制衡封四九。 一行人开始冒险，谁知进入还未进入墓地，却几番陷入凶险，突破了关门村，草人阵，找到了墓地后，却引发了如潮水般的斗虫来袭。历经艰险下墓后，家奴大烂财突然发难。经年忍辱负重的他只觉现在时机已到。却不成想惊动了阴阳母子棺中的巨大斗虫。开始屠杀众人。封四九的同伴为掩护众人陆续牺牲，最终，陈青山与封四九冰释前嫌。陈青山牺牲自己，保全众人。 而封四九最终将墓底宝物用做军饷捐赠。
